Atlantic Fleet

Atlantic - It's a classic for today's sailor!

The Atlantic one-design is a classic keel boat designed for club racing and fast sailing.  Standing at 30' the Atlantic was designed by Starling Burgess in 1929 for racing on Long Island Sound.  Within two years, one hundred of the boats were built in Germany, shipped across the ocean, and began an over eighty year tradition of close, competitive racing.  In the late 1950s a mold was made for a fiber glass hull, and today's Atlantics are solid, modern boats with flotation tanks, aluminum spars, and dacron sails but they retain the classic good looks and solid performance of the original design. Currently there are active Atlantic fleets in Cold Spring Harbor, NY, Madison, CT, Westport, CT, Niantic, CT, and Blue Hill, ME.

With 18 boats, CPYC is home to one of the largest fleets of Atlantics in the world. Atlantics are beautiful boats, fun to sail, highly competitive, and foster a level of enthusiasm that borders on obsession.  New boats are built by Cape Cod Shipbuilding, and the strict class rules have maintained the competitiveness of all boats.

The CPYC Atlantic Fleet racing schedule features races every Saturday and Sunday from Memorial Day through Labor Day.  Come join the fun!
